Volunteer Opportunities
Phone Calls, Fundraising Assistance, Mailings, Data Entry, Administrative Duties,
Group Projects, Volunteer Recruitment, Development of Brochures, Development of
Educational Materials, Meal Preparation, Grocery Shopping, Housekeeping, Deliveries,
Maintenance Projects, Donation Assistance, etc.
Training is provided for direct service activity such as:
24-hour hotline, Transportation, Child Care, Shelter Monitor, Court Advocacy Services,
Prevention & Education Activities, Individual Counseling, Group Counseling, Referrals,
Advocacy, Safety Planning, Special Projects
IMMEDIATE VOLUNTEER NEEDS
Sojourn Westside Fashions, Upscale Resale
• Assist the mission and funding of Sojourn by working at our Resale Shop.
• 2815 West White Oaks Drive (behind Kohl’s).
• Store hours are Monday Saturday, 10am 6pm.
• Multiple volunteers needed.
• Clothing sorter, cashier, or floor clerk.
• Lawn care assistance (pull weeds, trim bushes).
• Flexible time commitment.
Sangamon County Court Advocacy Program
• Assist with preparing orders of protection.
• Work with advocates to assist clients.
• Day hours only. Monday Friday, 9:00am Noon
• 40 hour training is required for this task.
Shelter Meal Provider
• Give moms a break from cooking (one time or on-going task)
• Provide a meal for our shelter residents (max of 32)
• Drop off food in throw-away containers.
• Work with a friend or group.
• Call to schedule your time slot.
General Shelter Volunteer
• Assist in sorting donations, organizing shelter items, taking inventory
• Prepare client rooms for new families coming to shelter
• Answer general phone lines, answer door, receive donations
• Monitor shelter through periodic “house checks”
• Requires approx. 2-4 hours of on the job training start now!
• Various time slots available, very flexible.
24-hour Hotline
• Work in our shelter office answering the hotline.
• Various time slots and hours available (Flexible)
• Staff will always be available if you need assistance.
• Some calls are from victims who need services.
• Some calls are from people in the community requesting information.
• Some calls are from concerned family and relatives to want help for someone they know.
• 40 hour training is required for this task.
Children’s Center Activities
• Sponsor holiday activities and/or donations
• Assist with end of the month birthday/outcome celebration events
• Provide special activity for the children (crafts, etc.)
• This gives moms a break or lets them attend appointments or counseling sessions.
• Only one hour of training needed to get started contact us.
Lawn Care/General Maintenance Assistance
• Trim bushes, pull weeds, water flowers, landscaping
• Paint
Adopt A Room
• Coordinate with your friends or group
• Purchase or get items donated to re-make a client’s bedroom
• Paint, carpet, wall hangings, bathroom accessories
• Complete entire project or break up into sections (ex., painting only)
Various Special Projects
• Help around the holidays (adopt a family, wrap gifts, etc.)
• Organize a pizza party for our shelter residents
• Coordinate a food or donation drive for our agency
• Make a monetary donation in honor of someone
• Donate a cell phone coordinate a cell phone donation drive
